Alesso released his first hit single back in 2012 and ever since, he’s generated a large fan base. So it’s hard to believe that Forever is his first full length album. With this debut, he has further showed that he’s continually changing the game of electronic music. The DJ has combined many genres into a unique sound that sets him apart from his peers. He also has a lot of collaborators including pop stars Ryan Tedder and Tove Lo and upcoming artists such as Roy English and Sirena.
Alesso’s biggest single is without a doubt the song Heroes (We Could Be) which features vocals from Tove Lo. The track has become popular due to how upbeat and catchy it is as a whole. It also has thoughtful and nice lyrics that make you instantly want to sing along. One particular lyric is, “Everyday people do everyday things but I can’t be one of them,” it’s a lyric that is simple enough but it still works extremely well.
We’re introduced to Roy English on the equally catchy and fun track Cool. Again, the lyrics are rather straightforward and not too in-depth, but the delivery and beat is what makes it a solid song overall. I really enjoy the song and think that it’s a perfect song to listen to during the summer.
Another memorable song that has fascinating vocals is Scars. The track features Ryan Tedder who is the lead singer of OneRepublic. He’s collaborated with Alesso before and it’s obvious that the combination is a successful one. The lyrics of this one are very thoughtful and actually fairly in-depth. However, the vocals and the general delivery is filled with the utmost confidence. I also enjoy the combination of rock music and EDM.
Tear The Roof Up is a fist bumping worthy track that is filled with energy and fun. It’s different from the other three songs I’ve discussed, but that shows his diversity as a DJ. The track is certainly not bound to be a hit on mainstream pop radio station, but it’s still a classic EDM track that should be recognized.
Under Control is a notable track due to the collaboration with one of his own peers. He teams up with Calvin Harris, who is arguably a little more famous than Alesso, but he also has more albums under his belt. Even though this also isn’t going to be a pop single, it’s an amazing dance track. It seems obvious that Alesso has learned a lot from Harris. The track is thunderous and filled with unique beats.
Forever is a solid debut album that proves what a strong DJ Alesso is. This album is filled with a combination of both dance and ballad tracks. Collectively, it’s a perfect album that is ideal listening during the summer. The general vibe is a fun and easy-going one that’s sure to attract to many different people. Alesso is a DJ filled with potential and I can’t wait to see what he releases next!
