This week’s Song of the Week is GQ by the new Brit on the block, Lola Coca!
Hailing from Portsmouth, England, GQ is the third single from the Lola Coca following Bad Girlfriend and Love Songs, both released at the end of last year. There is small whispers of excitement surrounding this woman right now, especially since she has already worked with big names including writer-producer Stefan Skarbek – who also worked with Amy Winehouse and Lilly Allen.
Despite being in her infancy, Lola Coca already has a really distinct voice and style reminiscent of Lily Allen when she first broke onto the UK scene to huge acclaim. She sounds tough, and the backing music for GQ, along with the lyrics, give it a really cool, almost tongue-in-cheek feel.
There’s not enough tough, cocky female artists like Lola in the mainstream at the moment. Hopefully she can start a trend, and I really am excited to see how big Lola Coca could get with such a distinct voice!
As always have a great week with lots of love from The Culture Cove!
