Domhnall Gleeson stars as Caleb, a young coder at one of the world largest internet companies, who wins a competition to spend a week with the companies secretive CEO in his secluded mountain retreat. While there he is introduced to the worlds first true artificial intelligence in the form of a beautiful girl, and starts to interact with it in a fascinating experiment looking at its human qualities.
This looks like a fascinating movie that looks at how close we can get to things that are not alive, or human. This is Alex Garland’s first shot at being a director, after writing such things as 28 Days Later (2002) and adapting Never Let Me Go (2010) from book to screen, so it will be interesting to see how he copes. He can obviously write a good story and this looks a particularly fascinating one.
I think this could be the type of exciting, conscience-testing film that will be very popular with film-buffs. Whether this film gets the marketing necessary to make it a blockbuster success remains to be seen – I hope it does as I feel this could be a big hit!
